Sorry for the size and the ugly sign but is sad to see my work used by others, in any way :faint:

I have been trying to unblock myself and painted this trying to loosen up... turned out to be something really like my older paintings, let alone the obvious reference - Am I going backwards or in circles?

Oil/acrylic on canvas 100 x 80 cm 2008

For the Abstract History Contest -I hope it qualifies as lyric abstraction...

I see it more as impressionistic than abstract. Regardless, I love it!

Names and terms, when talking about art, only really matter when it's art history. I don't care what name one gives to a style or technique, it is what it is. I like the painting very much, yes it reminds me of impressionism but there is plenty of impressionism I do not care for at all. Calling it abstract or impressionism tends to load a ton of associations on it, some maybe intentional but not all. The painting has a life to itself, something you gave it, and that's all that really matters. Terms are useful, but they're not everything. :)

I know. Yet it was for an art history contest so the term had to be there ;)

Actually I don`t like much to put labels on paintings -lately I'm not even naming them to avoid suggesting "insights" or "concepts" (although the latter seems to be very popular these days...)

Ah I see! lol that's pretty funny. :) How'd the contest turn out?

I went through a "no title" phase on my abstract paintings for the same reason. But the one I just finished, and the one I am just starting that are abstract, they had names almost the same time I thought up the image. They name and image are inseperable, so it worked this time. I wonder if it'll last for other works...

I understand, actually I am that way too, I have the names from the beginning -especially because I'm not a pure abstract painter- only I don't tell them here in DA, to see what people think of the painting. In my blog I do put the names though ;) (I usually don`t have comments there lol)

  How has that worked in your experience? Do people come around to your intent for the painting, or do they go off in left field?

Totally their own way, which I think is good. I mean if I wanted them to think something in particular I would add something to the painting specific enough or then again, a title. The best examples are "1 of 4" and "2 of 4" (those are really part of a series on the 4 seasons, 1 is summer and 2 is winter) I'm sure if they had titles on them they could get the feeling of warmth and cold (I hope, I guess I will have to reveal that later and see if they do ;))

I don't normally go for abstract art, but I like this a lot. The colors are great -- really vibrant -- and the texture adds a lot of interest. It gives a strong impression of a lazy, happy day outside. Good job!

It is very beautiful, like an abstracted version of the lily ponds.

I don't think Monet would mind. :+)

However, this was inspired on a totally different image... I thought it was too obvious but with my background I guess it should look like a reef -check out this link [link]
